UAE Launches US$1B AI Fund to Power Digital Transformation Across Africa

The UAE has unveiled a US$1 billion “AI for Development” initiative to finance artificial intelligence projects across Africa, announced by Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed at the G20 summit. The programme will be implemented by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office under the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, in cooperation with the UAE Foreign Aid Agency, to upgrade digital infrastructure, modernise public services, and lift productivity. While project lists and timelines are pending, the fund will prioritise AI use in education, agriculture, and infrastructure to accelerate growth and resilience. The move builds on the UAE’s long term support to Africa, with over US$41.4 billion in aid provided since 1971.
